2009-2010 Girl Scout programs

Troops can work towards earning a variety of Try-It’s, Badges and IP’s in a creatively inspiring atmosphere.

BROWNIE TRY-ITS

Most of these activities require 1½ hours to complete.

Fee: $14 per Brownie

Through the years: Swing into the 1920’s or Hustle back to the 1970’s as we discuss the culture and trends of decades past.  Project options: 1920’s - create a mixed media interpretation of Charlie Chaplin or Albert Einstein; 1930’s – paint a canvas inspired by Piet Mondrian; 1950’s – learn to create a 3-D, soft sculpture in the form of a TV dinner;  1960’s – hand tool leather to make a groovy bracelet; 1970’s create your own pop art that Andy Warhol would be proud of.

Art to Wear: Wearable art is a popular fashion trend and it’s not limited to painting t-shirts!  Troops can choose shrinky art jewelry, button and found object rings or flower barrettes.

Hobbies: You won’t believe the new materials available to crafters these days. With some surprising items, you will create a mini memory album and experiment with crafting as a hobby.

Stitch It Together:  Buttons and thread and fabric, “oh my!”   Learn sewing basics including how to thread a needle and sew a button, practice different stitches and discuss sewing safety rules. Girls will create either a small stuffed birdie or an adorable pin cushion.

Color and Shapes: Building on the basics of art: color, shapes and lines Our project will be a fun canvas wall hanging or mat.

Numbers and Shapes:  Did you ever think about how mathematical art is? Brownies will try the Japanese art of paper-folding called origami, discuss patterns and  design and make a creative mosaic to take home.  

 

JUNIOR BADGES

Most of these activities require 2 hours to complete.

Fee: $16 per Junior

Business Wise: Juniors learn about starting a new business when they meet and talk to marmaladeskies owner, Debbie Tawse. Girls will create a mosaic using found objects, while discussing the ins and outs of owning a business. 

Art in the Home: Juniors can show their style with either a decoupage vase and hand-made flowers, or unique outlet covers decorated with unusual materials.

Art in 3-D: In this class Juniors will explore the many types of 3-D art and create their own mosaic using broken tile and glass.

Drawing and Painting:  The title says it all! Juniors will use a variety of paints and drawing materials to explore color, shading, line, and the principles of composition.

Making Hobbies: Experiment with unique materials and learn a whole new side of arts and crafts. You can create an earth-friendly bracelet using recycled gift cards and hardware pieces, or learn the art of finger knitting and make a belt or scarf.

Prints and Graphics:  Stencil, stamps and found objects! Juniors will play and experiment with all of these and create a set of thank-you cards to take home.

Visual Arts:  Art has Rules? Juniors will learn about composition, shading, positive and negative space, and other basic techniques while creating a unique artwork on stretched canvas.                                      

CADETTE, SENIOR & AMBASSADOR IP’S

Most of these activities require at least 3 hours to complete.

We can help you meet all of the reqirements to earn your IPs except for the service project - that, my dear, you must do on your own. Please call or e-mail if you have any further questions.

Fee: $20 per Junior

Your Own Business: Discuss the ins and outs of starting your own business with marmaladeskies owner, Debbie Tawse.  Learn about customer service, marketing, and running a studio; together we will design a creative window display.   

Artistic Crafts:  Art can be visually pleasing and functional. Learn how to incorporate photos and memorabilia into meaningful art. 

Folk Arts: Discover how different cultures express themselves. We’ll look at artistic masks, rugs, jewelry and sculptures from around the world? We’ll talk about what culture means to you, and create a one of a kind doll that is all about you!

Visual Arts:  Develop or enhance your visual art skills! Create an amazing piece of art using perspective, composition, color, design and shading.
